Everyone Is Black
I am currently listening to Afua Hirsch - Brit(ish): On Race, Identity and Belonging via Audible.
The author recounts her impressions of landing in Ghana on her very first trip there at the age of 15.
She describes seeing the ground staff, airport security personnel, everyone with whom she encountered in that first couple of moments and realising that everyone is Black.
This sentiment, this realisation is one with which I am familiar, as it is precisely the same feeling I had when I visited the home of my parents Jamaica for the first time. I even marvelled that the manikins in the clothing shop windows were also Black!
