Shopping tells us it’s Valentines Day already

happy-valentines-day.gifA quick perusal in a card shop today, looking for a birthday card for my Auntie, let me know that the god-awful Valentines day is fast approaching. No sooner you’re over spending for one holiday than another rears it’s ugly head on the horizon.

February 14th is to me a day that passes with no real celebration. Although most people ‘bitch’ about having to buy their partners Valentines day gifts, they still do it. Even though they harp on about commercialism and how it’s a day that greetings card companies invented just to fleece us out of more of our hard earned, they do not dare arrive home without the obligatory card, chocolates and/or flowers.

Spreading the ‘lurve’ with some Gourmet gift baskets is perhaps a way of showing your partner that you think they deserve something a little more that the £1.50 big pink card you picked up from the street vendor or the train station on the way home.
