Freelance employment worldwide

March 10, 2007 by Stirlyn

One of the major drawbacks to working freelance is finding enough work to keep the money coming in. One way of keeping a steady flow of project options is to subscribe to an online marketplace where businesses post projects and freelancers bid for the work in what is referred to as a reverse auction format. Elance is one such online marketplace for services, where if you are a freelance writer, webdesigner, programmer or business consultant you will be able to find work.

I first came across them in 2001, and they have continued to grow as a business since their inception. There are many copy-cat marketplace providers large and small but Elance, now in it’s 10th year of operation, was one of the forerunners in providing a place where freelancers and businesses could communicate directly with each other. There are five core service categories – Programming, Design, Websites, Writing and Business Consulting.

If you are a freelance worker, try signing up for their service or browse the site to see what kind of projects are on offer. If you are a business, check out the service providers. You could cut the cost of your project by opening the project to the Elance bidding process.
