I’ve been looking forward to this trip for ages, dreams of breaking the bank and coming home with a million dollars. How you do that I don’t know since you’re only allowed to take $10,000 out of the country, but since there were five of us travelling, I guess spreading it around the group would have halped ease some of the customs worries. Still we were on our way to the infamous Las Vegas strip to enjoy a 4 night 5 day stay in one of the city’s biggest and brightest hotels the Venetian. The idea of the place conjours…
I wondered what life would be like upon reaching the Island of my forefathers and mothers. I wondered whether my possessions that I had shipped to Jamaica would land safely and whether I would be reunited with them or whether they had sunk to the bottom of the ocean as the ship that made it’s way across the Atlantic, laden with the goods and chattels of other returnees, struck a wayward iceberg that had meandered it’s way from the arctic wasteland north of my departure point.
Well the day came and went, Barack Obama has indeed become America’s 44th President and what a day it was. The crowds were enormous, the biggest I have ever seen in my life, and I didn’t even see it all until I came home and watched on CNN. My friends and I was sandwiched somewhere just below the Washington Monument on a day that started around 5am and finished (as far as being outside) some 12 hours later. I couldn”t believe I could be on my feet for so long, God knows I felt it afterwards, hobbling around the apartment,…
I’m not trying to blaspheme when I say this but the picture or image that came to mind when walking towards the Lincolm Memorial on Sunday to enjoy music, see stars of screen and stage, and to listen to Barack Obama speak was one of the people arriving to listen to Jesus, when he gave the sermon on the mount. Two days before he is inaugurated as the 44th President of the USA, Barack Obama, his wife Michele and their two daughters Malia and Sasha are due to make an appearance at the pre-inauguration event where stars of screen and…
Damn blast those merchant bankers who called in about 1 percent of their outstanding loan and flushed the holiday company XL down the toilet and messed up thousands of people’s holidayls two weeks ago. Thank’s to those buggers, I’m not going on holiday today to the seemingly wonderful island of Grenada! The writing was on the wall couple of weeks earlier when rumours started to circulate that XL had cancelled their Caribbean long haul flights as of November 2008. Despite the disappointment of not travelling to spend a week in the sun, doing some diving, some drinking and some travel…
Do you know what a six second pour is? If you don’t then perhaps you should go on a cheap Gran Canaria holiday and watch the bar staff. They pour large measures there, but that not the only reason to visit the beautiful islands off the north coast of Africa. There is some quite drastic scenery and the people there welcome you with smiles and laughter when you visit. Gran Canaria weather is hot and dry. It’s guaranteed winter sun for us who live in Northern Europe and it’s only a four hour flight from London.
Once again the early morning was bracing and dark. Leaving home at 5am is not pleasant, least of all because I never usually sleep the night before flying, for fear of oversleeping and missing my flight. I made the exception this time and caught two hours kip before loading up my Jeep and setting off to pick up my two comrades.
