I just finished editing a photography show about a UK gospel choir who this year celebrate 13 years in the music industry. Using the images taken over the years, we were able to build a visual history of the life of the group from 1994 to 2007. Although most of the images were taken, not as documentary, but as a combination of promotional, live event and portrait photographs, along with my co-editor, we found enough in the images that could tell the story of the group over the time. There exists in all of us both male and female hormones but an imbalance between them can create in females excess body hair. In many western cultures, feminity is deemed compromised if excess hair is apparent. In these images, a sample from the series “The Androgyny of Body Hair”, Kitty Melbourne is one such female battling to conform.

[tag]Body hair[/tag] on women is an intriguing subject which I am currently exploring via a collaboration with a sculptural artist in a project exploring concepts around [tag]androgyny[/tag]. The project is presently focused via the medium of [tag]photography[/tag]. With the use of light and reflection we hope to produce some stunning images of women who are willing to have their body hair photographed. The focus of the [tag]artistic[/tag] project will concentrate on areas of the body from which all hair is removed by most women in western society. During the Autumn half term, I became aware of a children’s playscheme that was running for a week in a local church hall so I volunteered to go along for a day and document the activities. Though I don’t see myself as a specialist charity photographer it seemed like a good opportunity to make some new work, and provide assistance to a local organisation trying to provide for kids at a loose end for a week.
