After not feeling too hot over the weekend, I am back to winning ways again thanks to some rest, water and lemons. I find 30 degrees in the City is too hot, especially because it’s so built up. It’s fine if you’re in the country or by a beach but in a a concrete jungle it’s a little oppressive. Was looking for the thunderstorms Monday, Tuesday as they predicted but although we had rain overnight I didn’t hear any thunder and didn’t see any lightening. Still if you’re lucky enough to have a day off work when the weather is…

You can earn money through travel photography without leaving your home town, did you know that? I am going to write a fuller article on another site that I write for, and will post the link here, but for a taster of what I will cover, check out this synopsis. No Need To Leave Home Year before last I went to Rome. It is an absolutely breath taking city, and if you’re someone like me who loves history, then Rome has bags of it and then some. Whilst sitting outside the Colliseum, marvelling at the wonders of Ancient Rome, it…

Section 76 of the the Counter Terrorism Act became law today in the UK. The new law was ushered in with a protest at the home of the Metropolitan Police, New Scotland Yard by around 150 photographers who staged a mass photo-shoot What’s the fuss about? It doesn’t really matter whether you are reading this because you are in the process of growing an audience. This piece (I hope) could spark an idea in anyone, even if you’re just thinking about your friends or the company that you keep, however it comes from a music marketing seminar I attended this week where online music marketing expert, Leena Sowambur, blinded the audience with a myriad of marketing techniques and ideas for promoting artists and music related business via the Internet. Amongst all that was said in a very informative session, was this nugget that got most of…

Classic photographs done over using lego by photographer/artist Mike Stimpson. He has recreated some of the most iconic pictures from photography masters such as Cartier-Bresson and Rober Capa. The pictures can be seen on the BBC website. I was quite amused at the images and the photographers take on re-creating such classic images using a child’s toy. It just goes to show that with a little imagination one can create using any material or medium. Fluidity in ideas lead to the creation of great pieces of art. Now not saying that these photographs are going to be clasped to the…

Forgive me if this seems a little self pitying, but photographers in the UK seem to be fighting a losing battle both with members of the public and with the police (or more accurately community support officers, security guards and police officers who are ignorant of the law on photography in a public place). More and more reports are being written of photographers who take pictures in public places having to undergo stop and search and confiscation of their cameras and equipment if deemed to be acting in a suspicious manner.

Photography school is about learning the basics, but it is also about starting you on a path that will lead to a greater understanding about photography in and of itself. Learning photography, from camera techniques to dark room skills can help film and digital photographers hone their craft and produce the types of stunning images that every amateur wants to produce.
