Building a profile in search engines

ß

I have long been involved in the web business but my focus has been on building the sites, not raising the profile of these sites in the search engines. I am now turning my focus for a while to this as I need to build the profile of bambooo.co.uk a new online magazine for contemporary black british people that features news reviews and features on life in Britain for people of African and African Caribbean heritage.

Whilst I have done the basics such as submitting the URL to major search engines like Google and Yahoo, I need to increase the visibility of the site by getting people to link to it. So I am testdriving strategies on some other sites to see whether I can build up my knowledge of how the engines etc rank your site.

As I don’t want to mess things up for the Bambooo.co.uk site, I am test driving strategies for building the profile of this blog site and my photography site morlenefisher.com. At the moment using Google and Yahoo I get the following results appearing on the first page returned:

  • Search using morlenefisher.com - Yahoo 6 results Google 5 results
  • Search using morlene fisher - Yahoo 5 results Google 8 results
  • Search using stirlyn.co.uk - Yahoo 3 results Google 4 results
  • Search using stirlyn - Yahoo 3 results Google 6 results

I will update this area of the blog with the strategy and the results as time goes by. My goal is to measure the success of the various search engine strategies over the next three months to see how well I have done. I am promoting the photograph business so my efforts will concentrate on getting listed or places higher in the search results on common photography terms that people use to search.

Helping in my efforts will be places like Wordtracker who give you lists of common search terms used. I will also try to use Google Adsense and any other free search engine tools I can find to help me. Wish me luck.
