BlogCatalog Bloggers for Good Fundraising Challenge

ß

[tag]BlogCatalog[/tag] the lively [tag]social networking[/tag] community for bloggers has lanched a community fundraising event which aims to raise funds, via [tag]DonorsChoose.org[/tag], for public schools in the United States. DonorsChoose provides a simple way of connecting students with donors. Teachers submit ideas for projects or materials needed by the students at their school, and visitors to the site can choose the project to which they wish to donate funds.

The [tag]BlogCatalog Fundraising Challenge[/tag] is believed to be the first such drive, by a social networking directory, to galvanise the support of it’s members for a worthy cause. Bloggers have been asked to write about the challenge and post all on the same day Monday 28th May. Not all of it’s members are happy over the choice or organisation to support. One member remarked in a discussion forum

“Although I think BlogCatalog had good intentions in setting up this event, I am very upset that it has chosen a charity that discriminates in who it will serve. If the mission of DonorsChoose.org is to allow potential philanthropists to find worthy projects that will benefit the education of needy students, why do they discriminate against students enrolled in non-government schools? “

It does however seem that BlogCatalog members are overwhelmingly supportive of the fundraising event. The company aims to raise $25,000 from this event. If you wish to [tag]donate[/tag] please visit the BlogCatalog Challenge.
