Another reason why I want to leave the IT industry!

The world of information technology is charged full of jargon, acronyms and people wielding the power of words just to tell you about a bit of software that aims to improve customer profitability. I should point out that after 20 years working in the industry, it has become increasingly difficult to decipher what software companies are saying their software actually does.

What ever happened to the Plain English campaign? It’s time to let these guys know that they have to spell things out in clear English, so that we can actually understand what on earth they are talking about. For instance, Acorn Systems provides a system that is aimed at giving their customers a “superior profit improvement solution”, or one that “improves customer profitability”, why not just say “our methods and software help you make more money”?

Acorn Systems, is a Microsoft Gold Certified ISV, (what’s an ISV?). They have a customer base with a heavy concentration in Financial Services, Retail, Distribution, and CPG (CPG??), so as long as their customers experience continuous enterprise-wide visibility into business performance by using their products, then the rest of us can sleep peacefully, I guess.
