A “Yard man” is a Jamaican. Another term frequently used to describe Jamaicans is “Yardie”, but that has recently been appropriated and most people think of a Yardie as a gang member so I will use the former to refer to the man with whom I stood today in conversation with for around half hour.

Today I attended the end of term concert staged by Project Music Workshops (PMW) and the Poplar Partnership at Cabot Hall, Canary Wharf. PMW work with children and adults creating Gospel Choirs and performing in various parts of London and the surrounding counties. When you attend the concerts, hear and see the enthusiam of the kids and their tutors, it is something that helps you to understand that unlike what we hear and see on the news, all kids are not in trouble. In front of the soon to be Bernie Grant Centre on Saturday was an artist completing a mural. Not being from around the area, at first I thought he was painting out graffiti, but was pleased to finally grasp that he was in fact creating a piece of public art for the enjoyment of everyone.

Yesterday was the first anniversary of London being awarded the [tag]2012 Olympic Games[/tag]. To mark the occasion, [tag]Trafalgar Square[/tag] was again the location for the celebrating and to the launch of the 2012 roadshow, a travelling promo bus that is to travel around the UK’s major cities promoting the games and sport for all.
